The Older Individuals who are Blind (OIB) Program (also known as Project Independence) is a federally funded grant program that provides independent living services to persons age 55 or older and who are blind or visually impaired.

  • Persons age 55 or older and who are blind or visually impaired.

What services are available?

  • Independent Living Services, including:
    • Advocacy
    • Information and referral
    • Cross-disability peer counseling
    • Independent living skills training
    • Daily Living Skills Training
    • Orientation and Mobility Training
    • Access Technology Training
    • Support Groups
    • Other services that assist individuals to maintain or regain independence and participation in their communities

What is the process for applying for services?

  • Contact the program(s) serving your region directly to apply for and receive services. 

Additional service information:

  • GVRA outsources OIB services to independent living centers and other qualifying agencies throughout the state.
