West Virginia Program Information

What are the eligibility requirements?

You must be a resident of WV who is 55 years of age or older, and has a permanent eye condition that interferes with daily living.

How do I connect with the program?

Call 1-800-642-3021, or visit the West Virginia Division of Rehabilitation Services (DRS) Services for the Blind and Impaired website.

What is the process for applying for services?

Make a referral by calling the 1-800 phone line to reach an OIB staff member who will complete a referral with you and schedule a date for an assessment.  Assessments can be completed in your home, at your local senior center, or at your place of residence. 

What documentation is required?  

A signed authorization to release medical records from your physician confirming your eye condition.

What services are available?

  • Instructions in alternative ways to perform tasks affected by vision loss
  • Alternative home organization techniques
  • Referrals to other services, such as Talking Books and free directory assistance
  • Help in connecting with community activities at senior centers
  • Resources for purchasing adaptive aids
  • Various adaptive aids such as magnifiers, bold lined paper, cooking supplies, talking clock, medicine planners and more

Visually Impaired Seniors In-Home Outreach and Networking Services Program 

The Visually Impaired Seniors In-Home Outreach and Networking Services Program is a federally funded program offered through the Division of Rehabilitation Services.  There are no income guidelines and all of our services and adaptive aids are provided at no cost to the consumer.
